Furniture Installation: Install a historic piece of furniture in the O'Hare Airport International Terminal. Relay the essence of this piece of furniture, using no words.
Gerrit Rietveld's Red and Blue Chair
(concept only) Suspend an over sized replica of the chair from the ceiling, made of colored glass. Install high-powered red, blue and yellow lasers at all endpoints of the chair, extending the horizontal and vertical planes throughout the halls of the airport.
By using lasers to extend the angular planes of the original chair, the observer is made aware of overlapping planes in space. The planar limits of the physical chair itself are only determined by where the materials are eventually cut. The essence of this chair resides not only in the physical realm, but also with the idea that these overlapping planes continue on in space, indefinitely.
